Nurturing a Simple Life: Homesteading, Homemaking, and Heartfelt Moments

Welcome to Wildflowers and Wooden Spoons

Sharing is caring!

Hello, and welcome! I am so glad you’re here! Life can be a beautiful blend of chaos and simplicity – especially when it is filled with gardens to tend, little hands learning, and the smell of cooking in the air. This blog is my little corner where I share ups, downs, and everything in between as we navigate this beautiful thing we call life.

A Bit About Me

I’m Elaney, a wife, mother, middle school teacher, cook, and beginner homesteader. My days are filled with the sound of kids laughing (and occasionally, okay you got me, more than occasionally bickering), the clucking of chickens, and the constant hum of “what’s next?” on our little homestead.

I didn’t always live like this. I grew up in a small town and lived in the middle of town. My husband, however, grew up on a tobacco farm. After we married, we lived in a several places, all of them well away from the hustle of town life. After a few years, we moved to where we are now and wouldn’t trade it for the world. We live on about 15 acres and raise sheep, chickens, and hopefully a couple of cows very soon!

Our family is now thriving in the mess and magic of this homesteading life on our small Kentucky farm. Our five kids, ranging from 16 to 4 months, keep things lively, and my husband and I are always learning as we go. Although, he knows a whole lot more than me about the ways of farm life.

Why A Blog?

This blog is born from the love of creating and sharing. While I dabbled in short video clips of cooking at the insistence of my kids, I still struggled with ways of being creative (plus I am quite a bit on the introvert side, and talking in front of a camera is still kind of scary). While completing my master’s degree, I found that I love writing, so what better way to share my ideas and thoughts than a blog?

Over the years I have learned so much from others – through blogs, books, and kind neighbors and family – and I would love to pass that along. Whether you’re an experienced homesteader, a parent juggling a million and one things, or someone simply curious about how others live, I hope you’ll find something here that inspires you.

I want this to be a place where we can connect over the joys and struggles of raising kids who grow up with dirt under their nails, making meals from scratch, tackling the never-ending task of cleaning while keeping our sanity, and finding peace and purpose in the busyness of everyday life.

What You’ll Find Here

Here’s a small glimpse of what you can expect from Wildflowers and Wooden Spoons:

  • Recipes: simple, southern recipes passed down from my grandmothers.
  • Family Life: creative activities for kids and stories from our daily adventures.
  • Cleaning & Organization: Practical tips for keeping things (somewhat) tidy in a busy household. (I may have to bring in expertise on this from my oldest daughter as she is better at this than me!)
  • Homesteading Tips: From growing awesome tomato plants to the cleaning up overgrown fields, I will document it all!
  • Reflections on Life: Thoughts on balancing it all and embracing the chaos.

My hope is that this blog becomes a resource, a source of encouragement, and maybe even a little place to escape with a cup of coffee when you need a break.

Join the Journey

I would love for you to join me on this adventure! Whether your a seasoned homesteader, a new parent, or just someone dreaming for a simpler life, there is a place for you here! Feel free to leave a comment below, share your story, or follow along on Instagram at Wildflowers and Wooden Spoons.

Thank you for stopping by my little corner. I’m so excited to share this journey with you! Coming up next, I’ll be sharing our thoughts on lamb as we just put one in our freezer to try!

Hope to see you there!
